Why did Shift Your Life® choose to be the sole event sponsor for SHIFT Charlotte 2014? On the Ides of March – a date (since the death of Julius Caesar) so cloaked in doom it eventually entered the lexicon as a metaphor for impending catastrophe?

We believe that 2014 will be the greatest opportunity for Shift-ing (personal, physical, emotional, business, spiritual, and global consciousness) that we have seen in decades. SHIFT Charlotte is the largest local Charlotte event (and largest in the region) dedicated solely to health, well being and natural living.  The fact that it is being held on the Ides of March this year to us symbolizes that it is time for the “death” of old constructs that have held many people, groups and communities in stagnant, self-limiting beliefs and behavior patterns. As SHIFT Charlotte 2014 Event Sponsor, we will have our own Shift Your Life® Room with activities and events going on there ALL day on Saturday, March 15th from 9am until 5pm! Qigong Emotional Release More Rapid Than EFT?

“The Shift Doctors” (Tracy Latz, M.D., M.S. & Marion Ross, Ph.D.) have presented the “Qigong Emotional Release” to therapists at the 2013 15th International Energy Psychology Conference in Reston, VA, the 2012 14th International Energy Psychology Conference in San Diego, CA, and to the Charlotte, NC local program unit of the National Association of Social Workers in 2012. At each presentation by Dr.’s Latz & Ross clinical social workers, psychologists, nurses and physicians are amazed at how rapidly the Qigong Emotional Release can work.

 

When asked where the technique originated, “The Shift Doctors” state “We learned the technique from our Qigong Master Robert Peng who taught it to us during our Shaolin tradition Gigong Healer training with him… and we believe from that ancient tradition that it might be the precursor to what has developed into EFT” (Emotional Freedom Technique). Dr. Latz uses the technique in her Integrative Psychiatric practice more often now than EFT, “because it can be done more quickly in my office and I can teach it to children, teens and adults to empower them to shift overwhelming emotions rapidly without having to create scripts or reminder phrases; and there are only 4 tapping points. Essentially, patients/clients/students also don’t unwittingly open up a can of emotional worms with reminder phrases or statements.” Both Dr.’s Latz & Ross agree that the technique doesn’t work for everyone – “when it doesn’t release the issue, then I still may progress to EFT to deal with the issue”.

I love digging in the dirt and feeling my connection to the Earth.  I find walking barefoot in the grass to be a great stress reducer. As a young girl, I used to run around barefoot with my siblings during the warm summer days, and recall how free and wonderful it felt. My father, a rural doctor, would always yell at us about the danger of cutting our feet or stepping on a nail. We would just laugh it off and continue romping barefoot.

In my integrative psychiatric practice, I often recommend ‘Earthing’ to patients as part of an integrative approach to healing.  In my mind, it is in alignment with the ancient medical doctrine of “Primum non nocere” – which means “First, do no harm”.

Earthing refers to the practice of making contact with the surface of the Earth either directly, with the skin contacting the surface of the Earth- or by having the skin make indirect contact with the Earth through the use of conductive materials. The Earth constantly sheds an endless supply of electrons (negatively charged particles) from its surface. You can’t see the Earth’s energy but some people can feel it as a warm, tingling, and pleasant sensation when they out walking barefoot along the water’s edge at the beach or on a stretch of dew-moistened grass.

 Adrenal Fatigue by Melanie Smith, O.M.D.

Adrenal fatigue happens when the adrenal glands wear out due to continual production of the stress hormone cortisol affecting the thyroid gland and thus creating many other hormone imbalances.

The inner medulla triggers the instinctual fight or flight response which then secretes adrenaline hormones that increase blood sugar levels, blood pressure and heart rate in response to stress. Over time chronic elevated stress levels can lead to weight gain, decreased resistance to infections, fatigue, muscle aches and low blood sugar.
During menopause, for women the workload of the adrenals increases as these glands become the primary source for creating estrogen and other sex hormones.

What are the Adrenal Glands?
The adrenal glands are the workhorse of the body driving the endocrine system. They regulate the body’s response to stress and are made of two separate organs combined into one location – the outer portion called the adrenal cortex and the inner portion called the adrenal medulla.

The adrenal cortex serves primarily a hormonal function – including regulation of mineral metabolism (sodium, potassium, chloride), water balance, metabolism (utilization and distribution of protein, carbohydrates, and fat), allergic and immune reactions (autoimmune diseases, hypersensitivity, and allergies,), and production of the male and female hormones (progesterone, testosterone, estrogens, DHEA, etc.).

The cortex also secretes corticosteroids in response to stress. These hormones help us to cope with long-term stressors by converting protein to energy. Long after the fight or flight response mechanism subsides, the energy still remains available.

The upside is that adrenal dysfunction can be healed. Creating a healthy endocrine system that continues to balance your hormones and incorporating stress reduction techniques will slow the aging process and keep you vibrant and healthy as you age. Why is sleep so important to our overall health?

Our society is sleeping less and less and doing more and more.  Energetically, when we are sleep deprived we don’t have all of our resources available to handle daily life challenges.  Our judgment becomes impaired and what would have been a minor difficulty (on a good nights sleep) becomes a major issue when we are sleep deprived.  Good sleep is a crucial self-care habit that helps our bodies energies run optimally.  Other important reasons for a “healthy sleep style,” are that sleep:
